Although by the only team in the UK taking a closer look at Reading starlet Michael Olise, Leeds United are believed to be very interested. Seen as one of the most exciting players in the UK outside of the Premier League, Olise has built up a huge reputation at Championship level given his weekly performances. Aged only 19 and with a stunning left foot, he is seen as one that Marcelo Bielsa could take to another level again. The challenge for Leeds is beating the growing competition to his signature.
The midfielder has drawn interest from most clubs in the top flight with a string of outstanding performances. Contributing over fifteen goals and assists combined, he has been a key part of a Reading side who have impressed beyond what was expected. As one of the hottest properties at the club, Olise is seen as a key asset for Reading – and someone who could help to soften the blow of missing out on promotion, should that happen.
The form of Olise, though, is a double-edged sword. If Reading do go up (in large part thanks to his performances) then it becomes much harder to prise him away from the Berkshire outfit. If they go up, too, it would make it almost impossible to land Olise for anything other than eye-watering sums. The promise of regular starts in the top-flight might even make Olise himself uncertain about moving on.
For now, then, the deal is likely to be one that you should pay close attention to. It’s an exciting, engaging match-up that would be ideal for both player and Leeds. Like any other deal, though, it stems from beating interest from other parties and making sure they can get the deal done without a bidding war.
How much would Michael Olise cost?
The challenge in determining cost comes from the talk of a potential release clause in the players deal. Some suggest that Olise has as release fee of only £8m, which would avoid a bidding war. It would also allow the player to choose where he wishes to go in terms of the quality of the team, the playing time, and the coaching staff.
Reading expect to have many teams hitting the release fee should it become active, but they might also wish to extend his deal. Given the goodwill around the club and the impressive form of the club overall this season, he might wish to extend beyond his current terms that run until 2022.
Leeds, though, are known to be keen regardless of the contract situation or wherever the player gets promoted in the first place. With so many competitive options to pick from, though, it might be nigh-impossible for Leeds to become the only team who can offer Olise a good opportunity.
Expect more teams to be in for an exciting young talent in the near future; a player who could easily make a difference to an ambitious, exciting Leeds midfield.
