The team was Leeds City; the time was 1919 and the place was a hotel in Leeds. But that is only part of the strange story that surrounds the creation of Leeds United Football Club.

Then a Second Division team, Leeds City had played only eight of their matches for that season, the first following World War I, when they incurred the displeasure of the Football Association. Illegal payments, former players turning whistleblowers, and missing financial documents, all added up as the FA and Football League called in Alderman William Clarke to hold a joint inquiry, before permanently disbanding the club.

Midfielder on Burnley win.

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips spoke to the media following Sunday’s victory over Burnley.

Patrick Bamford’s early penalty secured Leeds a second home victory in a row at Elland Road, after a 5-2 victory over Newcastle United.

Phillips was pleased with the outcome of the match, as the Whites saw off Burnley’s push for an equaliser.

“Obviously last week was a disappointing week for us and a disappointing game, but we came out today,” said Phillips.

Head coach on Manchester United defeat.

Marcelo Bielsa gave his thoughts following the defeat at Old Trafford, against Manchester United. 

Speaking after the game, the Whites’ head coach gave his reaction to the performance. 

“In the first half we had similar opportunities to the ones they had, but we weren’t able to score them,” he explained.
